Letter from Liszt to Pierre Erard in December 1845
“My dear Erard,
(…) Admirable! Admirable! Admirable!
(…) The extreme lightness of the keyboard, with such a powerful volume of sound. (…) After three consecutive concerts with 7 works in each, I did not feel the slightest fatigue in the fingers, and unless I’m mistaken I don’t think I played a single wrong note. That’s the first time this has happened on a piano as magnificent as your Erard… Up until now, as I’ve already told you, it was only in Vienna that they knew how to make pianos according to my tastes and my fingers, and the pianos that Boisselot sent me in Spain came close to them for the keyboard… No matter what people say and do, keyboards for women will become the standard: supple, sure of touch, the keys only having to be pressed lightly.”

Lettre de Liszt à Pierre Erard en décembre 1845
« Mon cher Erard,
(…) admirable ! Admirable ! Admirable !
(…) Une extrême légèreté du clavier avec un volume de sons aussi puissant. (…) Après trois concerts consécutifs de sept morceaux chacun, je n’ai pas éprouvé la moindre fatigue dans les doigts, et sauf erreur je ne crois même pas avoir manqué un seul passage. C’est la première fois que pareille chose m’arrive avec d’aussi magnifiques instruments que les Erard… À Vienne, seul, je te l’ai dit, on savait jusqu’ici faire des pianos au goût de mes doigts et les pianos que Boisselot m’envoya en Espagne s’en rapprochaient pour le toucher… On aura beau dire et beau faire, il faudra désormais des claviers de femme ; légers, sûrs et enfonçant peu. »

Brief van Liszt aan Pierre Erard in december 1845
“Mijn beste Erard,
(…) Mooi! Prachtig! Indrukwekkend!
(…) een extreme lichtheid van het klavier met zo’n krachtig volume. (….) Na drie opeenvolgende concerten met elk 7 werken, had ik niet het minste gevoel van vermoeidheid in mijn vingers, en als ik me niet vergis, heb ik – geloof ik – geen enkele passage gemist. Het is de eerste keer dat zoiets me overkomt met zulke fantastische instrumenten als de Erards… Enkel in Wenen, ik zei het al, was men tot hier toe in staat om piano’s te bouwen naar de zin van mijn vingers en de piano’s die Boisselot me stuurde in Spanje kwamen in de buurt voor het toucher… Men kan zeggen of doen wat men wil maar voortaan zijn er vrouwenklavieren nodig: licht, trefzeker en met weinig diepgang in de toets…”
